Employees’ Local Donations Top $100,000

Lakeland Care staff reach milestone in support to Wisconsin nonprofits.

At Lakeland Care, Inc. (LCI), supporting individuals’ independence and helping them live well in their communities is part of the mission. Lakeland Care provides Family Care services, a Medicaid managed care program providing managed long-term care services and supports.

But at Lakeland Care, that support goes beyond the mission statement: Lakeland Care’s employees live and breathe that purpose too. In addition to the work they do every day supporting individuals throughout the region, Lakeland Care employees help build stronger local communities by participating in a company-wide program called CARE for a Cause.

CARE for a Cause is an internal program that has been overseen by a committee of LCI employees since 2011. For each biweekly payroll date, this group of employees identifies a local charitable organization to which donations will be made and monies are collected through payroll deductions. One hundred percent of all funds raised each period are donated to the twenty-four local non-profits designated by the committee each year. This summer, Lakeland Care employees’ total donations to area charities topped the $100,000 mark.

“To say that I am proud to work at Lakeland Care is an understatement,” said Trisha Holz, Chair of Lakeland’s CARE Committee. “When people ask about our company I tell them how our employees help members live their best lives, and also how our employees are so involved in each community they live in. Our small contributions each paycheck have big impacts throughout the area, which is very obvious from the heartfelt thank you notes we get from the organizations that receive our donations.”

Lakeland Care serves more than 6,100 frail elders and adults with disabilities living in twenty-two counties in the Fox Valley, Northeastern and North Central Wisconsin. Much like Lakeland Care itself, the CARE for a Cause effort has grown and changed over time, but the fundamental elements for both the organization and the program’s mission have remained the same: support those vital resources within our communities that add value for the people living there.

“Each day, I am grateful to work for an organization that promotes a flexible work/life balance for their employees while contributing to the communities that we all reside in,” Holz concluded.
